Hungarian rock classics III: Lord
Magyar Posta is continuing its series on Hungarian rock classics by presenting the band Lord, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its foundation in 2022. Fifty thousand copies of the black numbered perforated souvenir sheets and 4,000 copies of the red numbered imperforated souvenir sheets designed by the graphic artist Tibor Z. PetĆ©nyi were produced by ANY Security Printing Company. The new issue goes on sale at Filaposta, philately specialist services, certain post offices and www.posta.hu from 2 September 2022. Two members of the Red Fire cover band from Szombathely, LĆ”szló Papp on keyboards and Ferenc Vida on bass, were joined by ErnÅ SipÅcz on guitar/vocals and IstvĆ”n SütÅ on drums, and thus the band Lord was formed in 1972. In 1980, the band took part in the national talent contest at Budapestās Metro Club. In the same year, Attila ErÅs, who had already played in the band for a short time, joined the group. In 1981, they gained popularity with singer MihĆ”ly Pohl, who is still a permanent member of the band. Their first album, called Big City Lights, was released in Austria in 1985. The song VĆ”ndor, which later became the anthem of Lord and Hungarian rock music, featured on this release. The year 1986 and the song Zaklatott fĆ©nyek brought their first television appearance. In 1988, the band released its first album in Hungary, Szemedben csillagok, which has been followed by 8 more studio albums to date. After several changes of members, Lord, with the new line-up of Attila ErÅs, Attila Gidófalvy, Lajos Gyurik, MihĆ”ly Pohl and Ferenc Vida, took to the stage at a re-launch concert in April 2000. At the Golden Arrow Rock Gala in March 2004, they won the 2003 Lifetime Achievement of the Year Award, based on audience votes. In 2005, Ferenc Vida was replaced by bass guitarist KĆ”roly Apró. The following year, the band received the European Golden Artist International Quality Award. To mark the 45th anniversary of their formation, they gave a super concert on 11 February at the Papp LĆ”szló Budapest Sport Arena. The band, currently consisting of MihĆ”ly Pohl, Attila ErÅs, ZoltĆ”n VilĆ”gi, KĆ”roly Apró and Zsolt HorvĆ”th and celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, is still active and constantly performing today. Embroidery on jeans and badges, which became fashion items for rockers in the 1960s and 1970s, provide the basis for the souvenir sheet. The bandās logo appears on the design of the stamp and the lyrics of their most iconic song, VĆ”ndor, appear in the frame, embellished by related thematic elements. On the first day cover, an electric guitar and plectrum together with the initial letter of the bandās name form a graphic composition. The special postmark features Lordās logo.
